Does anyone here know how accessible for good photos the Polar Bear cub might be? I have a fortnight off now and am considering a trip to include these and Vienna's Panda cub.

Not long at all until we lose the species from Europe, methinks.....

Sad news, and as @TeaLovingDave wrote, this species will unfortunately disapear from European Zoos soon.
Does anybody now how the breeding results in SE-Asian zoos are? Just to check if it would be possible (import/export regulations aside) to reimport them to Europe.

And a week after the male passed away, the female was also put to sleep due to bad health. So that leaves only Berlin and London with these wonderful pigs, though both won't have them for much longer.

This was Munich's male, just before he died...

5 Red river hogs born at Hellabrunn :

The flamingo flock contains both Cuban and European flamingos as well as hybrids between the two.

I see no reason why a serious and rich German zoo continues to produce hybrids in this day and age. What is their reason? Education? Protection of nature?

Jana, agreed. I really did not know they keep them as one flock. IMO a major flaw in bird management in some European collections. No need for interbreeding nor hybrid birds and easily preventable.

Isn't any of the elephants still pregnant? I've heard some news that Panang might be pregnant. Is it true?

The article also stated that due to Temi's pregnancy, the planned transfer of the Kewa's family to Munich would not take place. I think it would not be a bad idea to move them to Augsburg, where they plan to open a new elephant house in the spring.
