Again Peruvian bush anoles - Polychrus peruvianus - have hatched at Münster. The species was first bred at the zoo in 2018. In zoos they are extremely rare and in Europe only 2 zoos are keeping this species.

Last week a female Visayan spotted deer (Rusa alfredi) was born and recently a 5-year old male Defassa waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa) arrived at the zoo. Hopefully the arrival of this male will lead to offspring at the end of the year!
Does someone know from which zoo the male Defassa waterbuck came?

Recently a male Grant's zebra (*13.05.2019) arrived from Parc de Branféré (France) and joined the 4 females that already lived in Münster. The zoo now has 1.4 Grant's zebras.

Recently, a young female secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) arrived in Münster and is now on show in the bird-of-prey aviary. No info on where she's from, however. I'm quite happy about that, as I already feared they would stop keeping the species since the male had been alone for some years.

They moved to a larger exhibit in the same area. I am actually not 100% sure what has been in there before, could be tortoise or weaver birds. The old rhino iguana enclosure was too small for them for sure.

New species: The zoo now keeps Marbled teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris) in the wading bird enclosure. They plan to take part in a reintroduction program on the spanish island of Mallorca, together with other zoos, e.g. Cologne and Jerez.

Cool, I haven't been in this place for years now, yet I have to look at the news about our situation with the virus. Maybe next year.

2 new aviaries, next to the flamingos. One with Lord Derby's parakeets, and the other one with Eurasian hoopoes, Edwards's pheasant and Mandarin Ducks.

Münster finally is starting to become a modern Zoo, after decades of stagnation.

A female Golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas) arrived from Zoo Karlsruhe in July. She was actually born in Zoo Wuppertal.

In July a male Blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus) was born.

At the end of July multiple Pied avocets (Recurvirostra avosetta) hatched.

In September 25-year old female African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) Sandy was euthanised.

In October a Goeldi's marmoset (Callimico goeldii) was born.

At the start of December this species bred succesfully for the first time in Allwetterzoo Münster.

Recently a new species arrived at the zoo: 5 Fat sand rats (Psammomys obesus obesus)!
This species is only kept in 11 European Zoos!
