Here is the next update: I have now more or less finished Sulawesi and Sumatra, along with Monsoon Forest. Challenges this time around were drawing the animals in a way that they could be recognised - this was a particular problem with the Sun bear, since its body shape doesn't necessarily correspond with most people's image of a bear . However the drawing that caused me the most problems was ironically the tiger, even though I have drawn the species over 80 times in the past few years... I found out to my amazement that I have now drawn over 600 trees on this map and counting... Next update I will probably have completed Islands, and then I guess I will move on to the African grasslands area.
I think the Sun Bear looks really, really good. But you've missed out "The World's Most Charismatic Mammal" (TM) which shares the enclosure.
Yes, I'm afraid I may have been a bit lazy on that count I did think about it, but I had already done the bear in the middle and all the enclosure around it so I just left it there.
I have made a fair bit of progress on the map (Islands is as good as finished other than a few buildings and animals yet to be added and have finished rhinos elsewhere). However, I was wondering if someone could help me out with these areas in the zoo. I know this is an older version of the map, but I couldn't remember or find out which species the areas in red below housed. 1 - Apparently used to house the anteaters and pudus, but the former have moved in with the capybaras so are the pudus still there or have they moved elsewhere, and if so, what is there now? 2 - Bush dogs here on the older map, cheetahs on the newer one. 3 and 5 - No idea; apparently used to house gentle lemurs? 4 - Used to be where the lions were, is this now empty space? 6 - Sand lizards appear to be at the top of this strip but is it now just an empty path with a waterway alongside? 7 and 8 - Are these crane paddocks? Have seen reference to them being here as well as kudus, is this still the case? 9 and 10 - On the old maps it says bongos at 9, oryxes at 10, but have seen more recent photos of bongos at 10 and zebras at 9. Thanks in advance .
1. No clue 2. Cheetahs were there in December 4. Yes, lanterns were there I believe 5. There are indoor huts for gentle lemurs and b&w belted lemurs so I assume this is their outdoors? 6. Empty but with an insect garden for bees 7/8. Yes 9. Zebras 10. Bongos I believe the oryxes left
1- The pudus are in a small enclosure only visible from the jaguar coffee shop. 2 - Cheetahs are there currently as of January, may have changed now. I believe the bush dogs are in the savanna side of SOTJ. 3 - The part closer to the bridge is where some babirusa are kept, further away is a currently empty enclosure. 4 - Yes, it now has some picnic benches. 5 - Currently houses numerous primates, I can't remember off the top of my head but I know there is at least black-and-gold howlers. 6 - Yes this is basically empty. 7 and 8 - Yes this is cranes. 9 and 10 - 9 is zebra and 10 is bongo. Oryx have left the zoo a few years ago. I'm visiting on Tuesday so I may be able to fill in more details.
Are these Wattled and/or Black crowned? Thanks for your help Thanks a lot for the help, will come in very useful .
For the record, I have posted some new updates in the Chester thread including about the canal islands. Hopefully it can help you with the map.
Just a quick update on this. My laptop broke a few months ago and as of yet I haven't attempted to recover any of my files from it (including the map) so it might be a while until I manage to get things up and running again with this. I have started a different project over here: Animal Map of Great Britain in the meantime as well as of course continuing with the Rarities thread among others. Anyway, thanks for bearing with me!
