So the National Zoo is now just home to four African lions? I assume Kimba (?), Millie (2000), Sabi (2002) and Marjan (2002) are still there.

Does anyone know the details of the white lions residing at the National Zoo?

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware the male tawny lion had passed away. I'm guessing he had circus origins like Delilah?

Millie was born at Paradise Valley Springs in New Zealand. Her twin brother, Max, has been the dominant male for many years and has fathered many litters.

Kimba was part of the private collection package (from Victoria; Bullens or was this the bears?) along with Delilah, the two tigons and a female tiger. I assume all are now gone (not heard whether the tiger is still living).

Are the two other normal-colour lions with Millie her offspring (sired by Kimba)?

the only non-Sumatran tiger now at National is one of Dreamworld's USA-imported animals (a male).

This full page page 4 advertisement in a national Australian magazine May 2015.

I believe a first for a Australian Zoo to so prominently advertise!

I was at the National Zoo today and the first of the new areas has been opened. It begins with a new cheetah exhibit behind the dingos' new home (the old cheetah exhibit) - I have to say I found it a thoroughly bizarre design, completely surrounded by an extremely tall solid fence with only a few viewing windows, and a little small too (especially by the National Zoo's standards). There were then two very nice lemur exhibits for Ring-taileds and B&W Ruffed - long, open exhibits with a steep dip in lieu of a moat. There was a huge new exhibit for African Hunting Dogs, which is sparsely populated at the moment (I could only see a couple) but will be fantastic. And finally a new Australian walkthrough, in which there were only emus and Swamp Wallabies - but it was a very pretty area. The only issue with this new area is that its location means that road noise from the Tuggeranong Parkway is considerable, especially for the lemurs. There's also been a development in the aquarium - the old sun bear tunnel has been turned into a simply outstanding tropical zone, which apparently is going to house some rays. You can walk through it at the moment (and see the dining room for the lodge through glass at the end) but there aren't any animals there yet.

A comment on Facebook from the zoo mentions that the rhinos have arrived but are currently off display while their enclosure is under construction.
