This hour-long programme last night featured the shooting of a 'polar bear' by a hunter in Canada - I think it was on Banks Island . On closer examination the bear had dark markings on its face and was not the shape of a typical polar bear .

After much repetition and drama about prosecution for shooting an animal the hunter was not licensed to , the conclusion from DNA analysis was that this was a wild-born polar x grizzly bear hybrid . Probably an aggressive male grizzly mating with a submissive female polar . Footage of a male grizzly driving feeding polars off a whale carcass at night was shown .They also showed an old mounted captive born hybrid in a museum .

The programme would have been good if edited down from an hour to half that length .

Saw this last night as well - with a title like 'Alien Ice Bear' how could you not pay attention!

I agree that it focussed far too much on the buisnessman who might've been prosecuted, rather than the possibility of a new bear species.

And for those who didn't see the show here's what the bear looks like
