Dr. Jake Veasey has taken up residence in Calgary. http://calgaryzoo.org/images/stories/pdf/news/release_-_nov_18_-_jake_veasey.pdf
I have already observed that a few weeks back in a Calgary Zoo thread. Jack Veasey was very much a all hands-on deck individual and very active on the EAZA front to. Not just a loss to Woburn SP, but the European zoos as a whole. It be also interesting to learn whom they have chosen as his successor.
Coming from a place like woburn it will be interesting to see what he does over here. I would love to see some more antelope, which i know he has dealt with in the past. Currently the only species at calgary are the gunther's dikdiks. While it is a loss for those of you in europe, it is a god-sent for us over here. Lately whenever anyone hears that calgary is getting a new animal, the first thing they say is 'I hope they don't kill it." Getting an individual with such credentials is a great boos for the zoo. It gives the public some hope, and faith in the zoo. The penguis are just around the corner, which should help pul in some of the visitors that have been lost over the last year. Im hoping to do in a few weeks and will fill everyone in on the construction progress and anything else that has changed around the zoo.
