I absaloutly loved the place when I visited and I must visit again to see the extension. Its great to see this small zoo going from strength to strength, and I congratulate the many births they are constantly producing!

Shaldons plays quite a large role (for quite a small site) in the zoo world, so it doesnt suprise me. Have you got any photos? I love Shaldon and since Im in the North West I could not make it to the opening!

I had a look at their website, it appears to be quite an interesting place thanks for bringing this zoo to light, I will now keep an eye out on their progress

Brother and sister. Aim will be to send one of them back to Vietnam and bring another animal over to bring some new blood into the population.

I had a fantastic first-ever visit to Shaldon on Tuesday and was really taken with the place. The births I noted were as follows (apologies for those already mentioned above):

Tamiops squirrels - 21/03/10 (quads) and 10/07/10 (quads)
    Long-nosed potoroo - 16/04/10 (one)
Giant jumping rats - 06/05/10 (twins) and 04/09/10 (one)
    Scarlet macaw - 27/05/10 (one)
    Emperor tamarin - 06/06/10
    Pied tamarin - 07/06/10 (twins)
Cusimanse - ventured out of nest box 31/07/10 (one)
Northern tree shrew - 28/07/10 (twins)
    African brush-tailed porcupine - 05/08/10 (one)
    Golden-headed lion tamarin - 11/08/10 (one)
    Black-tailed marmoset - 14/08/10 (one)

There were also some young Azara's agoutis.

I thought this was a lovely little collection.

    Update

A baby Red Titi has been born.
A baby Black Tailed Marmoset has been born.
Mlagasy Jumping Rat(s) have been born (?)
I think (?) the Swinhoe Squirrels and Silvery Marmosets may have bred too?
The Lories have been moved into their wonderful new aviary.
Future plan is to focus upon one species of Ruffed Lemur (instead of the two - Red and B & W) and use the space of both enclosures as one.
    * The new extension [all done for 170 K] is amazing and as another zoo chatter posted, it should serve as a lesson to all other UK collections!
It was good to see the Civets - one got up and moved around its nest box midday!
A great little place that needs more support.

In recent weeks two baby black-tailed marmosets and one white-faced saki monkey have been born at Shaldon Zoo (Shaldon Wildlife Trust).
