The forum software we use to run ZooChat has two options available for image processing - most commonly used for resizing uploaded images to save on storage space. It seems the default option that I have been using has a limitation in that it strips ICC colour profiles from JPG files, which in some cases can lead to photos looking washed out and not as vibrant as they should. This was confirmed based on a query in this thread: Photos look dull after posting on ZooChat? I've installed the other image processing software we can use and tested it - and I have confirmed that it retains the ICC colour profiles when resizing images - which should solve the problem. It should be noted that thumbnail images are deliberately very highly compressed to minimise data requirements when browsing the galleries and so still have the ICC colour profiles stripped - but that shouldn't be a huge issue. The main reason I'm making an announcement about this is that there could be some circumstances in which the new software doesn't perform as expected - so if you notice any problems when uploading images to the gallery, please do let me know. I have seen mention online that the new image processing software we're using now is considered to do a better job at retaining image quality when resizing, so we may even see a slight improvement in the images on ZooChat now - although I doubt most people would notice the difference.
