Actually it wasn't it was directed at you but a few others that think that if they pm me I will tell them everything that is happening at Chester!!!
Anyway, I hope Beni is doing fine in his new home. If someone is visiting the zoo could you take a photo of the crate and of the rhinos, please.
Only 1:0 was on show today. He had access to the smaller (partically offshow) paddock and the main house. I am going to guess by the green mark across the top of his back that it was Beni although I am not certien. Jola, the crate is dark brown with Zoo Dvur Kralove written across the side in white (It's also surrounded by temporary metal fencing, hence why I didn't attempt a photo). I didn't get chance to ask when Babuu will be moved but doubt it would be this week due to there being no crane visable.
Baabuu left Chester yesterday morning, he arrived safely at Pilsen today, he's doing fine! --> Baabuu at Pilsen
Thanks for the update Jola, glad to hear Baabu is ok. Baabu was one of my favorite animals at Chester, along with Asha [female Asiatic Lion] also now sadly left us. Would it be possible for you to post photos of Baabu, as I do like to keep up to date on ex Chester animals, Tejas [lion] and Margaret [Giraffe] being two recent cases in point.
Here you are, Baabuu at Pilsen, photo taken short after he left his crate: Find more pics taken September 17, 2011 (by Martin Vobruba from Zoo Pilsen) on my website on Indian rhinos in European zoos: Baabuu in Pilsen There are also some photos of Baabuu's new home at Pilsen, I'm sure Baabuu will like that place: Nashorn-Anlage Zoo Pilsen
Thanks Jola, excellent website on Greater one horned rhinos. Judging from the photos of Pilsen, Baabu will enjoy his time there, also nice to see Patna has not been forgotten yet. Whilst on the subject of Patna can anyone tell me if he had his limp on arrival at Chester. The vets team at Chester gave an excellent members talk about a year ago, and the work they did with Patna formed a large part of that. I cant remember If Patna had a limp on arrival at Chester ,but I cant imagine the zoo would take on an animal if they thought it had such a serious injury that it would shorten its life so severely
Yes he had the limp when he arrived at Chester,he had it ever since his mother broke his leg as a calf!
If I were ever to visit Pilsen, I would be able to say I'd seen a particular individual of a species in three collections!
Good news from Pilsen, Baabuu is doing fine, he loves swimming in the pool and he's interested in everything around him. If someone of you is going to Chester, may I ask to take some photos of Beni. The staff at Pilsen would be very glad to see how he is doing now - of course, me too.
I've attached a couple of images taken on the 18th Sept - if you'd like large better quality ones please PM me by all means and I'll arrange it.
I took a few on October 2nd - unfortunately he was racing around his enclosure quite enthusiastically, and I was racing almost as fast for the exit so as to not miss my bus, so the quality isn't amazing. But here's the best two anyhow
seems to like 'chasing' the Brow Antlered Deer he shares some of the paddock with I was surprised when I saw him how much bigger than Baabu he is - hope he gets a mate in soon!
We can but hope - as mentioned earlier in this thread, it would be long overdue to get a female Greater One-horn.
Please not, my website on Indian rhinos in European zoos "rhinos.eu" was moved to a new address "rhinos-in-europe.net": --> Rhinos in Europe Good news on Baabuu and Manjula at Zoo Pilsen: they mated last week!
