New map for the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra for 2014. You can see the new Lodge accommodation scattered around the zoo on it, plus reference to the new Open Range Zoo under construction next door.... big things are happening there this year. pretty exciting.
It is nice to see this fairly small zoo (18 acres?) expanding in the near future but is there a timeline as to when the lodges and giraffe/zebra/rhino/cheetah expansion will occur? Also, I see that the aquarium is being renovated at the moment and has there been a press release about the plans for that facility?
The aquarium has been undergoing renovation for quite some time, not sure exactly how long, but it was started at least mid-2013.
Animals have been relocated to the new area already, and I believe the expansion and Accommodation is slated for opening in the latter half of this year. The Aquarium building is due to open in a matter of weeks - before the April School holidays they say - but there hasn't been a press release yet.
The aquarium opened last school holidays so just over 2 months ago now The new part of the zoo is meant to open between october and christmas this year
