Madagascan House has been opened in Wrocław Zoo on 12th May. It is completely rebuilded former Small Mammals House. There are two walk-through aviaries (indoor and outdoor) for birds and bats, outdoor walk-through exhibit for red ruffed lemurs, small nocturnal section for tenrecs and mouse lemurs. Among animals are four species of lemurs, three sp. of tenrecs, four sp. of waterfowl, other birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes and invertebrates - in total 33 species among madagascan plants. It is first pavilion in Wroclaw Zoo dedicated to one geographical region.
Just noticed this but pretty cool Is this the small house that held the fennek, african brush-tailed porcupine, kinkayou and mongoose lemurs (among others?). Because if it is, that building was really needing revamping when i was there (2008), but held an incredibly interesting mix of species. Good to hear this zoo is also on the move
Being very interested in Madagascarn fauna in zoos could you give me a few more details about which species inhabits this new house? If it's not too much trouble
@jwer yes it is it was under renovation when I was there March last year. And after reading this I think it's time I visit Wroclaw again.
Yes, this is that same house, but totally rebuilding. I think that only outside walls were left. Fennec foxes living now at Desert House, african brush-tailed porcupines, mongooses and meerkats are in outer enclosures of Crocodile House, mongoose lemurs are in Monkey Roundhouse, kinkajoues are behind the scene, douroucoulis moved zoo. Indian flying foxes are still in this house - they should be replaced by madagascan species in future.
