No, didn't even think of it actually. Would have required renting a car by the looks, which wasn't particularly feasible. Did do some cool stuff though, will update my thread tonight/later.

Didn't even think about it, he says. You know if nanoboy was going to Brisbane the first thing into his head would be something like "lion encounter at DDZ!". He won't be able to even look you in the eye now. Well, he'd have to climb on a box first so he was high enough to make sure you knew he was deliberately not looking you in the eye, but the sentiment is the same.

DDZ is about the same distance from Brisbane as Goulbourn is from Sydney (about 150km). It can be done in a day, but it's a lot of driving. If Nanoboy was in Brisbane I think he'd be looking at Australia Zoo, Dreamworld, Seaworld, Fleay's or Currumbin - all of which are closer.

    :p

It's true! Well, the bit about the lion encounter anyway. :D

If I were in the neighbourhood I would probably make the effort to meet Steve in person. If Steve decided to throw in a lion encounter, well that would be icing on the cake. :D

my understanding is that zooboy is a shade over 6ft tall, so even I would have to lift myself onto my toes to deliberately not look him in the eye.

that was my reasoning: you think it would be easier to convince him to let you pat a lion than it would a keeper at the other zoos :D

It's not quite a "Christian" name, is it?

Well it would seem that the place is slowly adding more and more species, that just help to make it one of the most diverse collections in Australia, would not surprise me if collections in Europe don't start taking notice of this place and start sending stuff over!
