On the 20th February, a mystery whale was photographed off the isle of St Martin's in the Isles of Scilly. It was later found to be a juvenile bowhead whale, the first one in Britain and also the first one in Europe found south of the Barents Sea.

Wow, a bowhead whale. I'm quite shocked to hear of a bowhead this far south, especially with global warming making it less likely, I would have thought for one to be seen south of the normal range.
