    in case anyone overlooked this part of the article:
    As one can imagine, having the original descriptions of these 15 new species published in a very expensive and rather limited edition book, rather than in scientific journals available to everybody, has not gone down well in some quarters. It is almost a step back to the nineteenth century days of zoological discovery.

    Not quite aggree with you Chlidonias. IMO the Handbook of the Birds of the World is avaible for every birdlover/scientist/any person intrested in birds ! If they would publish all or part of the species in some Brazilian university-publications, a much less amount of people would be able to get it or even to har about it and when they do, only a few would be able to read it ( oke, there would be an english sumary but the real 'thing' in Portuges ).

    I wouldn't call a book that is priced 145 euro available for everyone. You are going to exclude a lot of people including a part of the Academic world. In my view the wrong decision.
