In October several East African banded mongooses (Mungos mungo colonus) were born. Recently the Black-capped capuchin (Sapajus apella) left the zoo and were send to a zoo in Poland. The monkey house (in which they lived) is in need of a renovation, this building was build in the 1970s and doesn't fit the needs of the animals anymore. The zoo wants to get rid of the tiles and create more naturalistic enclosures with hiding spots. The zoo is currently missing one of their young Indian crested porcupine (Hystrix indica) that was born last year. Last Thursday both young were missing but one male was found alive outside the zoo. The female is still missing... Osnabrück is exchanging it's male tiger in the near future. Since the current pair of Sumatran tigers didn't breed until now, the male is going to a french zoo in "late april". A new male will arrive from France in exchange. No info on which zoo(s) in France are involved, unfortunately. Edit: Another info, the new "Wasserwelten" area for Humboldt penguins, harbour seal and california sea lions will open July 7th. Source: Facebook

On the zoos instagram story appears a trailer video which is followed with a survey. The animated trailer shows different locations and collages. For example an errupting vulcano, a moving T-rex skeleton, viking ships, the Red Baron and so on. It is titled "a new project is casting a shadow". After a quick research I found a local newspaper article from summer 2021 which talks about new projects of the zoo and mentions the construction of an evolution arena called "Zelt der Zeiten" (tent of times). This is probably what is teasered on instagram as the article describes it as state-of-the-art projection technology show that brings extinct animals back to life. It is compared to the Circus Roncallis animal hologram show. The article also mentions that the rhinos will move out of their newly improved exhibit and into the african themeworld Takamanda. It also shows plans and concept art of the new elephant park "Kui Buri". It will expand the enclosure into the rhino exhibit after they moved out. Then the elephant will have 1,6 hektar for themselves. As new species for the zoo pigmy hippos and ant eaters are named. Furthermore the article says that some monkey and ape exhibits are going to be improved (for example the orangutans and squirrel monkeys). source: Zoo Osnabrück 2030: Wasserwelten, Elefantenpark, Tier-Holografien | NOZ
