A few bits from a visit today:

    - A spinner shark has been on display for around a week
    - A blue-ringed octopus has been on display for a day
    - A rescued flatback turtle is currently on display prior to its release
    - Their Shark Bay sea snake is heavily pregnant

    Very interesting stuff!

Is this the only flatback on display in any aquarium? Do many other regional collections hold spinner sharks?

I'm going to AQWA tomorrow and I will be looking out for all of the stuff mentioned by Devilfish above but what other things are particularly cool and unusual to look out for? I know very little about fish so I want to make sure I don't miss anything important.

Also, I would appreciate it if anyone could give me an estimate of how long I would need to do the whole place thoroughly. I will probably get there a little before 12 (my Dad will drive me and he won't be up until late ) so I could probably have up to five hours if needed but I think I will only need around three or less?

The main thing to not miss is a large unlabelled cuttlefish in one of the reef tanks opposite the moon jellies. Reasonably easy to find if you're looking for it - as is the octopus in another nearby reef tank.

It's worth trying to chat to some of the staff during/around the talk sessions.

An hour is enough for a very quick visit of this small aquarium but you need 2-3 hours to be comfortable. Three hours should be plenty of time for a thorough visit but it's easy to spend longer here if you want.

Last year I raced through in about 45 minutes, got to see everything but many things I just glanced at. I'd guess if I had the time I could take a couple of hours, three if I was spending a lot of time taking photos.

If you've got five hours to spend there is a large mall nearby where you could waste some time.

    :p

I don't have to spend five hours there but I could if I wanted to. My dad will just be milling around the harbour and shops while I'm in the aquarium and conveniently I can just give him a call when I'm done. :p

I'm in the car on the way to the aquarium now so I'll probably be there earlier than 12 anyway.

The flatback turtle was successfully released earlier this week.

    That's excellent news. :)

I was actually writing a review of AQWA today funnily enough, so hopefully I should have some pictures and that review posted before too long.

Has anyone visited in recent years that could suggest some highlights someone should lookout for on a first visit?
