Some good news to start off a new thread. The zoo has just received a male white rhino named Kifaru from Africa Alive in the UK. He's around ten years old and was born at Marwell (UK) Hopefully he will breed in the near future :)

Very rare birth at Zoo Augsburg : a Northern Slow Lory ( Nyciticebus bengalensis ) born. The mother was being conficugated for 10 years at an airport and it's her first young. Because of lacking morher-care the young is being hand-raised.

A male giraffe has been born at Augsburg Zoo but the mother didn't accept it and is now hand-raised. Attemps are however made to re-unit mother and son.

A marten has killed some of the birds in the new walk-though-aviary shortly before the offiical opening. So they moved the surving birds into the indoorr exhibit to fix the fence.

Strange, three years ago the same happend at Hagenebck, a marten has killed there in several days al puffins except one....it seems, it is very difficult to build a martensafe aviary....
