During March this year, Augsburg recieved a female Mindanao water monitor from Cologne Zoo for the male which already lived at Augsburg. The new pair seems to do quite well and now the first eggs were laid, a clutch of 8 :).

For the single female Cape thick-knee at Augsburg a new male arrived from Zoo Wuppertal.
From Zoo Duisburg 2 pairs of Scarlet ibisses were send to Augsburg.

Swinhoe's squirrel is a nice species to add. Will they have a side exhibit or be free-range? New enclosure or replacement?

3 Magellan penguins hatched at Augsburg :) :

    (FB) :

    MAGELLAN-PINGUINE in AUGSBURG

[IMG]:)

The zoo hopes to ferry two elephant cows from Tierpark Berlin. It should be Louise (46) and Frosja (39).

Few notes from my recent visit:

    - Kittlitz's plover doesn't seem to be kept anymore. It wasn't signed where it was normally kept (in the Tropenhalle in the big African aviary) and it wasn't seen nor signed anywhere else at the zoo.

    - Ruby topaz is alive and well

    - New species seen: Greater Madagascar day gecko (unsigned in the Reptile House), Zebra waxbill & Dybowski's twinspot (both in the big African aviary in the Tropenhalle, 3rd holder in Europe for the twinspot according to zootierliste), Black-headed lapwing (unsigned but seen and photographed, also 3rd holder in Europe)

Not so old; it's listed as having hatched in June 2015, and having arrived at Augsburg in July 2016.
Some very nice species mentioned here: Augsburg really is such a good place, and the Bird House in particular is one of my absolute favourites.... The Twinspots are 2.0, from Berlin.

Which suggests they quietly brought a new one in at some point, as I saw the species there in April 2015 : p with that individual having arrived in 2013.

Agreed! Nothing in the zoo feels world-class although it is a very neat little zoo with some nice unspoken about exhibits (the reptile house especially the outdoor exhibits for snake and the Mindanao water monitor exhibit but also the two nocturnal exhibits in the tiger house and bunch of other stuff) but that definitely is what comes the closest. Spent a good chunk of my time there and it was obviously where I took the most photos

This is actually super interesting because I noticed how much of their bird collection came from Berlin. They seem to send each other (or at least one way) a lot of birds (and it's also one thing I noticed while checking ztl: they have got a lot of their animals from other zoos instead of private breeders as a lot of other zoos do, which is a nice trend).
