Another Crowned Sifaka was born at Belfast in November - baby is so far unsexed but doing well Is it a boy? Is it a girl? Sex of new baby lemur born at Irish zoo undetermined - Independent.ie
More curious is the fact that a male named Tilavo is the father. Every baby Linoa delivered at Belfast, was fathered by male Andry so far. I guess there has been a change then, hasn't there?
My condolences, Al. He sure proved to be a wonderful breeding male. He was one of the founders from Madagascar, right? Now Holly in Apenheul is the only wild-caught individual left in Europe.

A female Striped Hyena has arrived from Africa Alive. She's now living in what used to be the Painted Dog enclosure
They had been moved to the quarantine building last year after the enclosure was needed for the wild dogs - this video on the site shows them there and it is stated they still had a pair at that point: Wild About Africa Alive! - Mini Series | UK Zoos - Africa Alive! I would be very surprised if the quarantine enclosure wasn't a size downgrade for the hyenas, so it's good to know at least one has been rehomed. However it was mentioned on here that the female now in Belfast who arrived in 2012 from Augsburg(?) was not compatible with the male and so they were due to be moved on to separate locations. I suspect the female is a younger animal. I don't know whether the male remains offshow at Africa Alive or if he has moved elsewhere.
A message on Facebook today reveals that the Monkey House is closed due to new arrivals who are settling in.... ..stay tuned
I hear a strange howling from the Monkey House. Such a howling as might echo through the rainforests of Venezuela...
An update on the current Moloch Gibbon situation. The current pair in Belfast, Omar and Assini are preparing to leave for Chester - in there place will be a new male (called Helo) from Howletts and a female from Munich (Kim). Further information on Belfast's Facebook
It's a pair of Venezuelan red howler monkeys, recently arrived from Holland. Belfast Zoo. Howls erupt from Cave Hill this Halloween, as zoo welcomes new arrivals!
I would be very envious because they barely ever did that here! I hope Belfast has better luck with breeding these individuals.
