The Welsh Mountain Zoo did have a failed set of eggs the year before they had the success.

As for the Muggers I'm not saying on open forum!

 

Just to clear some things up...

The pair of Spectacled caiman went to Chester Zoo on a two year loan. A pair of Meller's chameleon arrived on the 11th January too.

 

Two pieces of news from the newsletter:

The Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman which hatched on 4th December, sadly died on the 9th March. He apparently struggled with eating.

The search for a male Siamese Crocodile may have come to an end, a zoo (Doesn't say where) currently has three males and there Zoo director is coming over to Crocodiles of the World to look at the centre to have a look at the three. So a deal could well be on.

 

Sad news about the young Cuvier.

Also I think you mean't to say that they may have found a male to go with the 3 female Siamese they hold not the 3 males that you said,the negotiations for this male has been on going since before Easter 2011!

 

Crocodiles of the world have announced the arrival of two male Siamese Crocodiles.

 

Crocodiles of the World is on Country File tonight on BBC1.

Sounds like Shauns haveing an excellent year, hes also hatched 14 West African Dwarf Crocodiles

Just for the record his name is Shaun Foggett not Follett!!!

 

It is a very interesting article and it's got me pondering about the "larger premises" he intends to move to next year? Sounds like there is an interesting time ahead for this collection!

 

The Larger Premises are much needed as the present location is at capacity,of what it can handle both in terms of number of species and visitors numbers,the new location will give Shaun the chance to give the species,he already keeps bigger and better exhibits where needed,and a chance to bring in a few more species of Crocodiles to improve what is already a very good collection.

 

It's great to know that he plans to expand, there is nothing comparable to this place in the UK and if it can become a viable, 7 day attraction then all good. The conservation work speaks for its self and from the documentary and interviews, along with peoples personal accounts, Shaun definitely seems to have a vision.

News for 2013 at Crocodiles Of the World.

1/A large male american alligator from Amazing Animals at Heythrop is to be
moved to Crocodiles of the World this week to join Daisy.
2/An adjacent unit is to be used for expansion of the collection.Whilst
there a film crew were filming Daisy being moved to her new quarters
with her new partner.
3/Plans for the Nile Crocodiles and the water monitor lizard being moved
across to the adjacent unit are also planned this week.
4/Two smaller african spurred tortoises have joined the resident male on
loan.I was rather worried about the temperatures outside and despite
the heat lamps they looked very cold.
5/It looks as if the large dwarf african crocodile may produce more eggs
this year adding to the large number successfully breed here.
6/Mugger crocodiles are planned later this year?

 

Heythrop's alligators are certainly impressive, so it will add another great animal to the collection! Did you say the sulcatas were outside in this weather though?! Or do they have an inside area ?

 

Sulcata Tortoises

The African spurred tortoises have a small wooden shed with a large
open door and a heat lamp.I was also concerned about the dampness
/humidity being adjacent to the flooding river.I have kept tortoises for
30+ years and would be concerned about these conditions.I hope they
bring them into the new unit.

 

The CofW Newsletter has announced that the younger pair of Siamese crocs have produced 6 eggs which have been taken to be incubated. On top their second older pair has also seen courtship and mating!!!

Aside, Albert the American alligator collected from Heythrop has been introduced to Daisy and it seems to be a very compatible pairing that looks promising. Plus a good West African dwarfies nest mound and spur thighed / sulcata tortoise laying.
