I found out that some ZOOs (Brno, Chomutov, Prague...) have their own threads. So this topic is for news from other CZECH ZOOs in general.

ZOO Jihlava: the first Sun Bear, female Aja, arrived to the new enclosure for bears. Their old home was completely reconstructed and now the facility is modern, providing nice space and interesting exhibit. Aja is from ZOO Hodonin. New male, Adam, will come on Wednesday and he is from Berlin.

ZOO Usti nad Labem opened new, modern and much bigger exhibits for big cats - home for tiger and Amur leopard.

Zoo Zlín - Lešná announced a successfull rearing of 11 Eastern White Pelican chicks this year. The zoo houses 4.4 adult birds that reproduce annualy (last year they also produced 11 chicks). Eggs are artifially incubated and all chicks hand-reared. As the holding capacity at the zoo is full, all chicks are going to other collections within couple of weeks/months.

Does Olomouc still keep any African Civets? and if so, how many?

Apart from a very old male in a Italian Zoo I believe only Olomouc keep this species in Europe.

Their annual report says their pair (1.1) was still alive at 31.12.2008. I think they never reared any offspring, but at least in the year 2007 the female had a miscarriage (litter of 2 youngs).

Olomouc zoo is building a new enclosures for Baribal bear and Arctic wolves. It is interesting that both species will share the enclosure. Just the wolves will have a small separated part where they will have the possibility to breed. Do you know something like this from other zoos? How this joining works?

The similar exhibit is doing quite well in Wildpark Lüneburger Heide and in year 2005 I saw nice exhibit in Berlin Zoo, there live brown bears together with arctic wolves, as I remember, they share two enclosures and the bears have access in only one of these enclosures, but the wolves can share both, in Heide there are together Kodiak bears with arctic wolves too.

I would also list the excellent Bear Forest at Rhenen's Ouwehands Dierenpark. They have had brown bears and European wolves roam a large exhibit for yonkers years.

If anyone can help me, I'm putting together a database with statistics of some of the world's top zoos. Essentially, I need the annual attendance figures for the following Czech zoos:

Zoo Dvore Kralove, Zoo Prague, Zoo Chomutov, Zoo Zlin-Lesna

Can anyone help me? Is there a good internet source where these can be looked up?

Most recent year available, or an overall average over recent years.
    Thanks.

I have just noticed that Zoopark Chomutov and Ostrava zoo imported Siberian cranes from Russia. Great news.

Why didnt ANyhuis look in the International Zoo Yearbook? There is a worrying trend of dependency on the internet methinks i.e.if it aint on there it doesnt exist -and what about support for the traditional cornerstones of zoo knowledge?Zoochat is fantastic but is it digging the grave for traditional literature?

    Tim,
Where can I get a copy of the International Zoo Yearbook? I'm over here in the USA, so I don't think it's readily available. Does the Yearbook contain zoo statistics like annual attendance and budget? If so, I really want to get one! Thanks!

This is a monthly magazine, isn't it? If so, then yes, I am familiar with it. Are you sure this is a good source to get all of the zoo statistics I was looking for?
