Rémi, a young 2 years old bull Rothschild's giraffe, left the zoo for a park in Spain (name not mentionned) where he will form a breeding pair with a young female (EEP recommandations). La Palmyre will receive a young female before the end of the year to continue breeding (I suppose the other females in the zoo are too old or have non breeding recommandations).
Prague zoo sent today a Nile hippo bull Fanda (5) to La Palmyre. Fanda was born 28. January 2016 to parents Slávek x Maruška.

I'm doing some research about the french population of sea lions in captivity. Somebody has knowledge about the history of the population of California sea lions in La Palmyre ? The births ? The deaths ?
The giant river otters are coming this autunm. Cet été girafes, zèbres et lions ont été ravis de vous voir plus nombreux au zoo de La Palmyre | Actu La Rochelle
Small light in the dark : the last snow leopard, a 9 years old male, left the zoo yesterday for Zoo Chorzów in Poland. The zoo will no longer held the species and the enclosure will enlarge the Sri Lankan leopards one. The new enclosure will not be too large at all but it remains a good news for the leopards.
Brazilia, the female giant otter who arrived at the beginning of the year died on October 7th. The cause of death is said to have been drowning when the otter got stuck in a decorative element of the pool.
Great breeding season for chilean flamingos with 35 chicks already in the colony, 3 birds in the nursery and 4 eggs still to hatch. Record season was 2016 with 60 chicks ! Log into Facebook | Facebook
Wow, so many chicks! Well done. Chileans are not doing as well as other flamingo species in Europe so this is positive development.
Berlin mixed flock breeds a chick here and there but breeding doesnt cover deaths in longer term. Slimbridge doesnt breed at all for decades, but refuses to send their birds to Berlin. These two species will die out in Europe. Due to their longevity, it will be extremely slow demise taking half a century.
The zoo has a flock of something like 200 flamingos divided into american (small group at the entrance) and chilean (huge group on the main zoo pond) so not surprising to see such breeding success. But wait for next year : maybe Beauval will have en extra large flock in the new giant south american aviary and, hopefully, a lot of chicks in the following years.
I was far away from the current situation : the chilean colony counts now 350 birds and with the american colony the zoo is now home of 430 birds I suppose this is one of the three european zoos with the more flamingos together with GaiaZoo and Sigean.
