Does anyone know about the zoo's expansion last year? According to the map on their website it looks like they expanded into a chunk of land across from the tigers. Camels are shown on the map.

Note about the group of white-naped mangabeys in the latest edition of Zooquaria - number 84 . There have been a number of recent white-naped mangabey births with the father being wild-caught and received from a Rescue Centre in Ghana . Excellent news for the breeding programme , which seems to be doing well recently .

Similar-sounding history to the new male at ZSL- perhaps from the same source?

Zoo Landau is taking care for the breeding programm of the Prince Alfred deer in Europe.
The breeding female gave birth on Nov. 23 to her 8th young - a female. Because the breeding male died earlier this year, this young can stay at Landau and now they are searching for a new, unreleated breeding male.

Earlier this year Zoo Landau joined the breeding-programm for the Socorro dove. At the beginning of July already the first young hatched ( a first-breeding for the Zoo ) and at the end of July a second chick hatched. The breeding-pair wanted to do however even more for its species and at the beginning of September a third chick hatched :).

The Azara's agouti-pair which came to Landau in spring 2018 is doing very well. Already 2018 the pair had two times young, both times twins.
This year the female gave birth to a single young in June and on Oct. 18 again twins were born :).

    Some recent deaths in Landau:
On December 2 male blue wildebeest Kiboko (18) passed away. He arrived from Kaunas zoo in 2004, he sired 19 offspring with 3 different cows. The zoo expects two gnu births later this year, therefore a new male will most likely arrive at the end of summer.

On January 28th the female Madagascan big-headed side-necked turtle was found dead in her enclosure, she arrived together with her mate at the zoo in 1996. They were estimated at the time to be around 40 years old, which probably makes them the oldest residents of the zoo. According to ZIMS refered to in the article only 44 individuals are kept in zoos and no births have taken place in the last 12 months.

    Some older birth news:
On November 8th 5 Asian small-clawed otters were born.
