Two months ago the Red ruffed lemurs (Varecia rubra) moved in with the ring-tailed lemurs. Multiple Common squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) have been born in the last weeks. They do some great work with killifish too and various other endangered freshwater fish species. Along with the Wien Aquarium elsewhere in the city. I wish more zoos would invest in this.

Last Sunday a female Reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata) was born. Last week 1,3 domestic reindeer arrived from Zoo Wuppertal and Zoo Gelsenkirchen, the zoo now has 1,5 domestic reindeer. The mother is Fleur and she has been born in Rotterdam where they have a long tradition in reticulated giraffes. So purebred I suppose.

According to ZTL they do, this female came from Zoo Olomouc which according to ZTL also helds "Barbary" lions.

Sadly the last Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus) was euthanised last week, he suffered from age related problems. He was born in 1993 in Tierpark Berlin and arrived at the zoo when he was only 1 year old, since 2019 he was the last spectacled bear in Tiergarten Schönbrunn. At the moment his old enclosure is getting renovated, however the zoo is expected to receive new spectacled bear(s) soon! On the 18th of May 4 Capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) were born.
