In addition, I can confirm that the aardvarks will receive a new enclosure for this summer. As said before, the new enclosure will be between the new african aviary and the snow leopards enclosure.

Did anyone know what happend with the Turaco species? First they hold 7 species, and now 1 at the Okapi-sanctuary and 1 at the new African avairy.

Recently announced birth of two snow leopard cubs (born to Junga on 23 May 2021): a male name Jungali and a female named Makalu (very popular name that for snow leopards, usually male though). Announcement on zoo website also states that there have been 17 other births in Europe in the last 12 months. I wonder where all the others have been?

Simple reply : there was too many turacos for the sanctuary. They were fighting and it was not good.

    And other nice births :

Nzuri was born July 1st and is the first baby of the lions breeding pair, Baz and Esma. Nzuri is a female.

How they keep vultures (griffon, cinereous and egyptian) in the open-topped stadium from escaping?

No or just for the egyptian vultures (as they were in an aviary previsouly). The griffon and cinereous are injured animals that don't fly really well and the walls of the arena are high which prevent escape in most of the cases.

    Recent news :
    - arrival of a new breeding male addra or mhorr gazelle. From what I know the zoo has now 2.10 gazelles but the second male is due to leave soon for another park.
    - birth of a single dwarf crocodile a few weeks ago.
    - arrival of about 20 seized radiated tortoises from SIngapore. They will go on show in the new Aldabra's giant tortoises exhibit.

I made an error : the radiated tortoises came from Hong-Kong not Singapore ;)

You just have to go to the top of the page to have an answer.

As I said before the aardvarks will received a new exhibit as they completely destroyed the actual one.

Another nice birth with the arrival of a female pygmy hippo called Quilla. She was born last november 11th. This is the third baby for parents Clafouti and Leah (2012, 2015 and 2021).

The director confirmed that the aardvarks destroyed totally the enclosure which is not safe for them anymore. The new enclosure will be 600 square meters with two levels (one with more light and the underground with shade in two caves) to allow more natural behaviour.

The aardvarks will be replaced by cape porcupines, new species for the zoo.

Another info : new birds will arrive in the african dry aviary.

Au Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine, les oryctéropes vont bénéficier d'un nouvel espace - Nature et Zoo
