I noticed somewhere in their news(or blurb) it says they are in discussion with several European zoos to source a male Elephant to go with the single female 'Buta', and also hope to bring in more females too. So she is presumably staying put there, at least for now.

I put it up at 6am this morning and It’s made from riot-shield plastic sheets and is not bullet proof.

It will however keep Pete in his place.

I could suggest a few things that would be better at keeping Mr Blake in but the only one that I can say on here is a padded cell!

Went to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm today and was told by one of the big cat keepers that one of there pair of african Lions are being moved on to Borth so that NAZF can then start breeding from the remaining pair.

They would probably get a quicker result by switching the male for another 1,but that will not happen as they have had the chance to swap animals in the past, and refused!

Nope, that operation is really a lot more complicated than you might think. I am not even sure what kind of evaluation NAZF has done till date. They should have some reproductive data, otherwise why using hormone treatment at all. What puzzles me is that they announced signs of breeding behavior between both individuals.

'Rhino Viagra' makes a good story, but is there any hope hormonal treatment will really work for this 'platonic' pair of Whites?

The transfer of bull Elephant 'Kruger' from PL was scheduled for last autumn but still no further news about that- from either place.

A fertility treatment drug exists that has been used successfully with rhinos. However, I rate the chances here is rather slim given that the male - female combo seem to have developed a bro - sis relationship.

BTW: at 14 YoA both rhinos are hardly middle-aged, just mere adults! Middle-ages would be somewhere between 20-25.

The window of opportunity for the female closes in 6 years or so. I would still welcome them to set up a proper white rhino breeding herd with at least 2.3 adult individuals.
