Well, it was signed in the McNeil Avian Center. And I got to see it, in the south american small bird aviary, with Baltimore orioles, blue-grey tanagers, blue dacnis and sunbitterns if I remember correctly.

A very nice new addition then, if so. I wonder where it came from.

To my knowledge FCZ no longer holds Gray-necked Wood-Rails unless they are not displayed. They do still exhibit Guam Rails, although they are temporarily off exhibit for the South Corridor Infrastructure project that is taking place around their exhibit.

The wood-rails were in the large rainforest aviary, they had several in 2011. I suspected they might have been gone by now.

Interesting to learn they do still exhibit Guam Rail, that is a species I'd like to see again.

How many of these actually display the birds? I know San Diego's are off-exhibit unless something has changed; I believe Smithsonian's are as well? Fresno has the species temporarily off-exhibit for construction, should be back on exhibit according to @ChaffeeZooFan. How about the others?

I find it rather surprising so few zoos keep this colorful native.

Smithsonian's aren't kept at the zoo they're at the private breeding center. Back when the bird house was open they were on-exhibit, though, I believe. Philadelphia and Sedgwick both exhibit their birds. I believe San Antonio does as well but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Beardsley announced a few years ago that they were getting the gallinule, though i don't think anyone has ever seen it or knows if it ever actually arrived.

Not sure if this counts as a "collection" but I do recall an exhibit for Guam rails at Tarza Water Park in Guam, (This was in 2017? So not sure if it's still there.) There was also a rescued specimen at Cocos Island in Guam I believe. (Also in 2017, not sure if it's still alive)

The Dallas World Aquarium does not have a Giant Wood Rail anymore.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park has Common Moorhen on exhibit (Gallinula chloropus).

I can confirm that Racine kept Guam Rail on exhibit last year, and I assume they still do.

I started visiting Fresno Chaffee July of 2020. I can tell you I have never seen grey-necked wood-rails there during my visits but they did have Guam rails. During my last visit, they were either moved off exhibit or were transferred out. They used to reside in the Asian Tropics Birdhouse.

Lincoln Park has Guam rails with Guam kingfishers and red-billed leiothrix.

I saw the wood-rails there almost a decade before you started visiting. ;)
I can confirm they had Guam Rails back then too.
