Thank you so much for this information! I could not find the names of Fort Worth's former breeding pair for the life of me.

I was also under the impression that their names were Michael and Sriracha but in the latest studbook, it is stated that their names are Safara and Khari. Not sure what's going on there!

As for Matthew, he passed away on August 20th, 2018.

I don't know; I wouldn't consider the NEW zoo in the upper midwest though?

I’m not at liberty to say where the girls are headed but I will say it is not the NEW Zoo.

AMALI at Louisville was born at The Bronx Zoo on 6 March 2013 to Sukari, sired by M'Wasi. She was rejected and transferred to Rochester to be brought up with Asha's litter born on 7 March 2013, as mentioned by Seneca Park Zoo when she and SAVANNAH were moved to Milwaukee:
Zoo to say goodbye to two African lions | Seneca Park Zoo

For the AMALI at Lee Richardson Zoo her mother's name was CLASERIE (aka 'CLASSIE') and she died at Lee Richardson Zoo on 5 July 2012

Does anyone know if Milwaukee will be getting a male lion to participate in the SSP?

Milwaukee is an AZA institution, therefore it is "participating" in the SSP. Participating in an SSP doesn't always mean breeding, and there is a need in most SSPs for holding facilities that aren't breeding/holding bachelor groups. Holding an SSP species means an institution is participating in the SSP, regardless of whether breeding is occurring or not. That being said, I have absolutely no idea what Milwaukee's future with lions entails- whether it include males, females, or both.

I get that, they moved 3 females just before the zoo closed during covid in hopes to breed with their male, then the male lion passed. Since then they’ve just had the 3 females. Wasn’t sure what was the plan.

Are AZA zoos required to participate in an SSP if they hold a particular species?

Yes. However, zoos can give input to the way they are participating.
