I have been watching Autumn and seen all her births. Right now the cam goes a funky red color at night. It has been like that for over a year.
It used to be on with subdued lighting. I don’t know if it’s a glitch, or the zoo decided it should be like that or EarthCam is doing it. All I know is previous enquirers about this have not gotten a reply. I’m afraid to push too hard.
These were the last giraffes on camera 24/7/365

    * Autumn’s previous match, Walter ( originally Hodari) sired several of Autumn’s previous calves before being moved to Turtleback Zoo. He passed due to dental issues.

And I have an explanation about the lighting!
Previously the zoo was turning off the lights at night. This was for the giraffe’s circadian rhythms. They got a red light so you can see the giraffes but not disturb their sleep. Yes, I finally did push.
Some things should just be explained to start with.
When I do pictures or film there’s some options I use which help.

Two-and-a-half years-old Alika at the Franklin Park Zoo is being relocated to an unstated facility. I learned this on the zoo's Facebook page.

    From Facebook:
"Not-so-little Alika is moving to a new home next week, based on a recommendation based on the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Giraffe Species Survival Plan (SSP)."

I can confirm that she is moving to “a zoo in Kansas”

That's odd, because I'm not aware of any Kansas holders of Masai giraffes. Sedgwick County, Topeka and Rolling Hills Zoos all keep generics.

That’s weird, I got an email announcing she would go to an unnamed zoo in Kansas. Maybe it was a typo and they were referring to Kansas City Zoo, which keeps Masai giraffes but is actually in Missouri?

I'm almost certain it is Kansas City, because they only recently acquired a young bull from Florida.

Nope, not at the moment. They do have a recommendation to bring a bull in though so I would expect that they will receive one relatively soon.

Hmmm…wonder where Theo at Cincinnati is headed. He left this week.

A few months ago, Los Angeles's young bull was moved to Columbus.

Not true. As of last weekend, the youngest male, nicknamed Shaq, was still there. His older brother, James, moved during the week of May 7 per what I was told by a zoo educator on May 13.

According to this PDF, https://lazoo.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Animal-Transaction-Commission-Report-April-2023.pdf a bull (doesn't specify which one) from Los Angeles was in fact loaned to the Columbus Zoo. Or maybe it's just saying that it will happen sometime in the next few months.
