So another hybrid orang for Gulf Breeze, that is great news (not that it is a hybrid necessarily, but that they are still having babies). They are now up to 8 animals, according to the article.

0.1 Sarah at ABQ Biopark gave birth to a healthy infant this past weekend. The sex of the infant is still unknown. Also, her 9-year old infant Pixel, who was originally said to be male, was recently discovered to actually be female.

Does anybody think that San Diego will be getting a new male for future breeding with Indah (and Aisha) due to the passing of male orangutan Satu?

Probably not for the time being since Indah just gave birth to a new infant (Kaja) a few months back and her daughter Aisha is still several years from reaching breeding age.

It could be another seven or so years until Aisha will breed again, so it may be quite a while before we see a new male at San Diego. That would give ideal time for Aisha to reach reproductive age.

According to a USDA inspection report conducted on January 6, 2022 the Metro Richmond Zoo is home to eight Sumatran Orangutans meaning eight hybrid orangutans by the USDA.

On February 17, 2022 the USDA inspection report stated that Myrtle Beach Safari has two Sumatran Orangutans but considering they called them Bornean in a report in 2019 I am assuming that these two individuals are hybrids of the two.
