Recently a 1-year old female Shensi takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi) arrived from Liberec Zoo. I believe that this is a new species for Zoo Opole.

The zoo is finishing construction of an Akwarium house. Should be done before end of 2023. Biggest attraction will be a large touch pool for rays (concept like in Zlin ). And 7 large tanks between 13.000 and 78.000 liters of water, for sharks, corral fish, Amazon river fish, local fish from Odra river, mudskippers etc. And several small tanks. Cost is 6,2 mio USD.

W opolskim zoo powstaje nowa atrakcja za 25 mln zł. Gdy będzie już gotowa, będą ją chcieli zobaczyć wszyscy mieszkańcy! Kiedy koniec prac?

In other news, the zoo got 288.000 attendance in 2022.

Thanks for the update. I am quite tempted to visit Opole again. I was last there in 2015. Would I find that much had changed in that time?

Yes. Opole is the best zoo in Poland imho. Of course Wroclaw might have much more species and Lodz has the big "orientarium" but Opole has the best experience. Just a beautiful zoo.

No, by far the best zoo in Poland is Wrocław Zoo. Opole can be called the most beautiful zoo in Poland. Many new enclosures have been built since your last visit: Reptile/Amphibian House rebuilt after the fire, enclosures for small cats, Tropical House, flamingo aviary, lion/tiger house etc. Some new interesting species: okapi, mishmi takin, bongo, some amphibians and birds.

I have some nice photos of Opole in the autumn which I can upload. I agree it's really beautiful. Wrocław is great for the animals, but Opole is a better landscape.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can post any photos yet due to the anti-spam policy.
