Visitors wowed as Okinawa aquarium becomes world's first to exhibit giant oceanic manta ray | The Japan Times
Hmmm. Maybe Okinawa was the first, I don't know, but this must have happened several years ago, and now giant manta rays are in a quite number of aquariums in Japan and North America at least... So, at least is an outdated new, if not just a wrong one.
Hm, then the ones in Georgia aquarium are Manta alfredi? I tought they was M. birostris! Really none of the Asian aquariums holded them before? (I vaguely remember something about mantas in Singapore... reef too?)
When you go to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, make sure to take the small path behind the dolphin show stadium and look through the portholes. Those unlabeled pools are home to a pygmy killer whale, pantropical spotted dolphins, and rough-toothed dolphins. I'm sure I was the only visitor that day who went and saw them!
