Old School Riverbanks zoo

    Who here went to Riverbanks zoo in its prime years? Mid 70s to late 90s? Interested in what you guys remember.

    I first went in 1994. The old Birdhouse is what stuck out to me. It was a circular building with various open-air exhibits inside (the visitor part was darkened to prevent birds from flying out of the enclosure too far. The Sonoran Desert exhibit I remember the most. In the middle of the house was a circular visitor area. There was a semi-circular penguin exhibit on one side (can't remember what was on the other side).

    They also had Rhino & Hippos back then. Elephants were by the main entrance where the lemurs are today.

    I clearly remember these, if you look at the gallery I uploaded a species list of what was in the aviary on its final day of operation in 1999. Also you are incorrect about Lemurs being there today, the exhibit was torn down to make room for the new Sea Lion habitat forcing the Lemurs into the tunnel.
