Last year a wild White stork showed intrest in one of the females at the Olmense Zoo and to give it a try, the female was released. No young were hatched last year and both went to the south during the winter-period. Both returned and are now nesting in the Zoo and the first chick has been seen
What a great zoo story! Please keep us in the loop. Is it expected that the chick will return to nest here?
Most of the "wild" hatched birds will migrate to the south during the autunm but return to the palce they were hatched. So in a couple of years - storks need around 4 years to mature - there is a good change this bird will start to breed also here or nearby.
