Alaska Zoo - Wisent Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center - Pzewalski Horse Alaska Sealife Center - Ringed Seal Although a really well done permanent Sea Otter Exhibit would be pretty cool. Wild Sea Otters are easily viewed from the docks and beaches of Seward though....so Ringed Seal.
Newquay zoo - Coua Cotswold wildlife park - African maned rat Paignton - dwarf cassowary Bristol zoo - Giant squirrel Fota - Just any crane species Living coasts - little penguin Harewood Bird Gardens - Lear's macaw I kid! Argus pheasant would be cool though.
Kobe animal kingdom should add prehensile tailed porcupines to replace the removed coatis and swamp wallabies to replace the removed tapirs.
Chester-Western Lowland Gorilla realisticlly this is what everyone will say but it needs to be done. Knowsley-European Brown Bear YWP-Californian Sea Lion (but I’d rather them not have the treading ion all sea lion show and more of an educational exhibit) London Zoo- sun bears Whipsnade- Polar bears 100% even if they just followed what YWP are doing Longeat- North American black bear in an mixed exhibit with the wolves like what’s done at Woburn South Lakes- this may annoy some that I’ve included it however I really like the improvements that have been made there and I think that white faced sakis would be lovely in there primate house. I’d also like to see elephants at YWP however I think that could be quite unrealistic
I completely agree about London and Knowsley, for me any species of bear at either would improve their appeal enormously.
I've even thought that an exhibit for African Elephants should be built at Cotswold Wildlife Park however I cannot see this being a possibility as this would mean having to extend the park to make it more larger, and also because I read in a TripAdvisor review that the owner of CWP along with his father (who opened the park in 1970) were always reluctant on housing elephants due to their powerful nature.
I know this thread hasn't been updated in quite a while since last year but just wanted to drop these few ideas I've had down into the forum. Birmingham WCP - Giant Anteater Seeing as the capybara have moved to a new enclosure recently, I am thinking this species would make a great addition to the expanding collection. Dudley already has them (even though one of them died sadly) and surely to have them in another zoo nearby wouldn't be a bad idea IMO. Chester Zoo - Eastern Quoll Since Chester now has a couple of unique marsupial species in its Islands section (I saw one of the Tree-kangaroos last year and they are just fascinating), maybe they could expand this section a little by adding Quoll to the collection. A few other places in the UK currently hold them (Bristol, Linton & Hamerton) and it would definitely be great if a fourth zoo was to do the same thing. Dudley Zoo - Persian Leopard, White-Nosed Coati, Pygmy Hippopotamus, Maned Wolf, Komodo Dragon, Sichuan Takin, Kinkajou, Chacoan Mara, Pallas' Cat.... Yes, I know that is quite a lot of animals mentioned there but as many of you know I am quite a big fan of DZG myself and it sure would be nice if maybe they were to go into any of these species at some point in the future. Edinburgh Zoo - Bearded Pig Seeing as London no longer has this species (Which is a very great shame as there is now only 1 other zoo in Europe holding them), maybe a couple of these somewhere would be quite the thing to attract more and more visitors to this zoological collection. Hamerton Zoo - Javan Leopard I know I've never actually been to Hamerton Zoo before (and I'd really love to do so if I get chance), but considering the amount of rare and unusual species this collection has to offer from Aardwolves & Brush-tailed possums to the majestic Malayan tigers I thought another big cat species like the leopard would make a suitable choice for an addition and what better subspecies to go with than the critically-endangered Javan leopard nevertheless! Amazon World Zoo Park - Jaguar or Puma Paignton Zoo - Hyena (either species) Twycross Zoo - Mandrill Whipsnade Zoo - Gerenuk (Nowhere in the UK has got them) Noah's Ark Zoo Farm - Wolves Marwell Zoo - Indian Muntjac
Have Whipsnade (or London) ever held Gerenuk? They certainly would make a fine addition but do they keep well in captivity?
Considering the fact that numbers have declined to this point precisely because the species has been deliberately phased out - to the point that around 6 years ago all remaining males in Europe were castrated - I think this one can be safely dismissed as a possibility......
Yes, London Zoo has had gerenuk. The zoo acquired its first two gerenuks in 1954; the Zoological Society of London Annual Report for that year lists gerenuk as a species new to the collection. Another gerenuk arrived at London Zoo in 1956; Crandall records that this specimen arrived on 31st July 1956 and died on 12th January 1961.
