I'm extremely confused by them opening it now, when everywhere else is shutting down again...

And also in late November, which is odd timing for an outdoor exhibit to open in a northern zoo (Unless it has an indoor portion)?

They have been working on it since June, so they didn't plan it out that way.
There is an indoor portion, as well as heated rocks, so that the lemurs can be out in colder temperatures.

They still made the decision to open it now, instead of waiting...

I don't really see how much of a difference it makes. It's not really a tight squeeze and there's still limited capacity for visitors.

For now... with the way the pandemic is moving, I wouldn't be surprised if non-essential public buildings get shuttered again across much of the country in the next couple weeks.

Zoos in the area are closing buildings, or completely closing all together.

That makes sense, but this is the building, so I'm not sure if this will even count, but even so this is pretty large for the amount of visitors that are going to be in the zoo. This particular zoo has normally like 2 or 3 other groups of people in it whenever I go.

@Fignewton Is that a pavilion or a building with windows?

I think it's a pavilion, but there's also windows somewhere. I'm not really sure, because the only time I saw it was in early stages of construction.

That is a pavilion, there are glass windows looking into the lemur exhibit.

Yeah, I agree. I just think it'll still be safe to go, that's all.

I just uploaded a bunch of pictures from the zoo including the new exhibit! Also the Sandhill Crane moved to the Swift Fox exhibit and the former guineafowl exhibit now has two long wooden perches, so I'm not sure what's going in there.

Thanks for the exhibit photos! Nice to see the zoo finally entering the 21st century with their exhibit designs :) Do they have crowned lemurs in yet?

Yeah, most of their exhibits are quite outdated, but this one goes beyond what's needed to house these animals. The pool with the cascading waterfall is such a beautiful touch and it's not even something that's needed for any of these species. And I spoke with the director and he said that they do have the Crowned Lemurs, but they're in the animal hospital. He mentioned it was something about acclimating the female, but I'm not entirely sure. The exhibit is definitely very active, so it would be overwhelming if she's a shy lemur.
