I would be absolutely amazed if this (at least the zoo part) ever sees the light of day. I suspect the company feels that because Perth has a similar climate to California that a business-model would transfer easily. In the right location they may well build a successful hotel complex, but a zoo - not likely.

sort of an update...well, more of an "I'd like to see this but we haven't looked at any sites and it won't be any time soon".....

Suggestion for second Perth Zoo site - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

All of these tantalizing ideas for an open-range zoo have been going on for years and until there is a viable financial plan the whole thing is like a zoo enthusiast's daydream.

Sounds good. But elephants !!Which species? If African they can only be imported from South Africa and if Asian they are most likely to be from Melbourne or perth.

If Asians they are most likely to get Perth's group. If they get some from Melbourne they could get retired bull Bong su and his two sons Man jai and Ongard but perth zoo wouldn't want to lose a major attraction as elephants.

It is most likely to start construction late next year if given permission now and will last about two years. So hopefully a new zoo by 2020 at earliest.Great to see new facilities for Perth zoo and another open range.I wonder what it will be named?
