You would think plans are underway. He'll be at a loose end without his friend, Jin.

Chester - male Sumatran, Tripa (Puluh x Emma 19 October 2012), was put to sleep on 4 September after several years of health-related problems linked to a developmental condition he'd had since birth.

I visited Dublin last week and it seems that there's nothing definite about Jin's imminent arrival.

To carry on MagpieGoose's good work: 52 year old Silvia has died at Apenheul. She was the joint oldest Bornean in Europe.

    Many many thanks to Gigit and Nisha for keeping this thread up to date, it's greatly appreciated;

-Matiku, the Bornean Orangutan born at Novosibirsk in March (Jantan X Michelle) is to be moved to Moscow Zoo, with the intention to introduce his maternal grandmother, Lichana. The back up plan if introduction is unsuccessful, is to move Matiku to Monkey World.

-Sandy (Sandokan) at Apenheul has been announced as being pregnant and due in March 2019. The father will be either Kevin or Amos.

-Mushon, also known as Frank, the Sumatran male from Ramat Gan has passed away. He was the oldest male Sumatran Orangutan in Europe at the age of 49. This leaves Ramat Gan with 1:2 Sumatran Orangutan.

-Bornean Orangutan born to Jantan and Lichana on the 18th of August, so far she appears to be rearing and feeding this one unlike her previous 4 off-spring, who have all been hand-reared at Moscow or taken to Monkey World to be reared. Hopefully she will continue to rear this one.

-Basel Zoo have bred a female Sumatran Orangutan on the 7th of August, the mother is Maia, the father is not known, although Maia had been with Chester born male Budi recently. The baby has been named ‘Padma’.

-Amneville have announced they bred a Sumatran Orangutan on the 30th of April, to father Ludi and mother Putri.

-Ekaterinburg Zoo have gone into Bornean Orangutans after they received a male from Novosibrisk Zoo called ‘Zakary’. This move leaves Novosibrisk with 1:1.

-The Bornean male born at Bioparc Fuengirola (Peek x Mukah) in January has been named ‘Sabangau’.

    - Jardin des Plantes have unveiled plans for an new €3million extension to their outdoor Orangutan enclosure, which will be around 570 m2, 15m high and around 5 times bigger than their current outdoor space. They are appealing for public funding for the new enclosure.

Welcome back to the expert :) Lots of updating to do! Interesting news about Paris. I haven't been there but improvements sound long overdue, especially now that things have got going with their breeding.

Forgot to mention that the baby has been sexed as a male and named 'Jeli'. Also, Lichana is thus far successfully rearing this one.

Do you know anything else about Orangutans at Vinpearl? I think this is the first mention of this on the forum.

Duran went to Vinpearl in June or July, and I believe he was the only Orang-utan living at Vinpearl. Although, Dresden's statement regarding the death states that Vinpearl had recently constructed a new Orang-utan facility recently.

Thanks for the great update, but are you sure about this one? I could not find any news about it, and it would be uncommon to breed again after their last offspring was just two years ago.

My source was a post on the Facebook page Actu'Zoo on the 12th of September which stated "The Zoo d'Amneville has just formalized the birth of an orang-utan of Sumatra on April 30. His parents- Ludi, 17 years old and Poutrie, 11 years old have been housed in the zoo since 2007." Although having a look back now it seems that it may be false information. And also related to the age of the parents, it appears it is just re-sharing of the birth of 'Tupai'.

A Bornean Orang-utan has been born at Kaliningrad Zoo to Benjamin X Nona. This brings them up to 2:1:1 at Kaliningrad. It is the first breeding of Bornean Orang-utan at Kaliningrad.
