A bit of fun really but I thought it might be an interesting idea if we the community built our own meduim size zoo. As I started this post I will be head curator and have the final say if there is a tie on species. We will start off with cat species and these are the choices .

If you want to pick a particular sub species out of this then thats fine too and would also like to hear your reasoning behind your choice.
    1.Lion or Tiger
    2.Puma,Leopard,Cheetah or Jaguar
    3. Serval,Lynx or Ocelot
    4. Any small cat species
    5. A free pick of any cat.

We will Keep the cat thread for one week - then move on .
    My picks.
    1. African Lion - we have to have the king of the jungle
2.Puma - Seems to have gone out of fashion in zoo's
    3.Serval - As above
    4. Scottish Wildcat - Would like to help one of our own (UK) species
    5. Jaguar - Completes a cross section from around the world

I quite like this idea, might be a bit of fun

    1. Tiger (preferably sumatran) - Tigers are always very popular and can contribute to conservation programs.
    2. Puma - nice cat that could be more common
    3. Serval - I like servals, also tend to be more active I think
    4. Sand cat - My favourite cat species and a cute little cat
    5. Black-footed cat - A very nice little cat species that could do with coming back into Europe or being more common in zoos in general (no reason that the zoo has to be in Europe)
All should be pure subspecies of course

    My picks are

    1. Tiger (preferably Sumatran or Malayan) as they are both endangered subspecies, and are my personal favorite subspecies

    2. Leopard (African, Persian, or Javan) Many Leopard Sub-Species are underepresented in Zoos (at least in the US) These being some of my favorite

    3. Serval (cant really think of a reason)

    4. Sand Cat, have you seen them, I cant comprehend the level of Adorable that is the Sand Cat

    5. Caracal: I really dont know why, but the Caracal is my favorite Cat Species, I really dont know why, I just love em'

    1. Tiger (Both white and Sumatran) would make your cat collection look nice.
    2. Cheetah, since everyone wants to see them.
    3. Arabian sand cat because they are so cute!
    4. Ocelot is my preferred type of small cats
    5. Scottish wildcat

    1. Tiger. Because so many are kept illegally as pets and are rescued. Rescued tigers could be taken to this zoo.
    2. Puma. Because it is native to my part of the world (North America).
    3. Ocelot. They are so beautiful!
    4. Scottish wildcat. This species is not as well known as the larger cats, but is still endangered.
    5. Domestic/house cat. Although an odd choice, this would introduce children to the world of cats with a familiar animal and compares domestic cats to wild small cats.

This is an interesting idea for a thread. Here are my 5:

    1. Tiger (doesn't matter what subspecies)- I think tigers are a must have species for most zoos. They are endangered, beautiful and if this zoo ends up being geographically themed, tigers would be an important animal in an Asian exhibit.

    2. Cheetah- like tigers, cheetahs are endangered and are also one of the most popular species of cat.

    3. Canada Lynx- I chose this species because it's from my home country. They have a very interesting look and should be displayed in more zoos.

    4. Jaguarundi- this is probably my favourite cat species. In addition to being a great species to represent central and south America, it is also a species that North american zoos are trying to phase in.

    5. African Lion- in my opinion, this zoo should have both lions and tigers in it. Lions are one of the world's most well known species of animal. They are popular and also can have a great conservation message.

    1. Tiger- I'd say Malayan or Amur.

    2. Leopard-Javan, because this subspecies is extremely rare, and I have always wanted to see one.

    3. Ocelot- My favorite small cat.

    4. Pallas Cat- They have those cool long hairs on their face.

    5. Caracal-Those ears are the best in any animal, in my opinion.

Lion- They are truly magnificent. (Not that I have anything against tiger, tigers are also magnificent)

Jaguar- The Aztecs called them a warrior and ruler for goodness sakes!

    Ocelot- Very handsome cat

    Jungle Cat- Enough said

Iberian Lynx- They are so rare!

I hope you choose Scottish wild cat because they are easy to tell apart from domestic cats. Just look at their tail. If its thick and fluffy, it means it is a Scottish wildcat
