From Facebook; Keepers at The Owl and Monkey Haven on the Isle of Wight have welcomed the arrival of six rescued Barbary macaques. The new additions were all sadly victims of the illegal pet trade and travelled to OAMH from the AAP Rescue Centre for Exotic Animals which is located in the Netherlands.
Good to see them arrive after the long campaign to build their enclosure, hope to visit for the first time this year.

Visited the collection for the first time today, fantastic little place with a great array of species. Staff were very informative and it seems the plan is for it to keep growing. As mentioned above, Grivets have arrived and are out and about in their enclosure. Building work is taking place behind their enclosure for a new, larger enclosure for the Rhesus Macaques and an education building, I believe. Will add some photos into the 'UK other' section seeing as new collections cannot be added currently.
Yes I like it a very pleasant place to visit. my only thought with the rhesus is they all seemed rather small and thin. they did breed but stopped.
I visited for the first time last week . I agree with JamesB , what a great little place . I wonder how much spare land they have as they seem to be growing steadily . Must say I enjoyed this collection more than Amazon World .
I visited for the first time last week and was very pleasantly surprised. It is has to be one of the cleanest, and well presented places I've ever seen with some fantastic enclosures with new ones being built as the place continues to grow. All monkeys looked happy and well cared for. Well worth a visit
A quick update: -Old news but 0:1 Grivet Monkey called Fluffy arrived on the 12th of January from Africa Alive (I believe now, Africa Alive no longer hold the species) -0:0:1 White Throated Capuchin born on the 15th of April
You are probably right, as the Golden Bellied Mangabey took their enclosure a year or so ago and the grivet haven't been onshow since
I wonder if they have introduced the new grivet to the existing group & with the capuchins wonder what sex baby is others all been male
I have just been reading about this species (Manipulative Monkeys, S Perry with J Manson, Harvard University Press). Without going into specific anatomical details, all infants appear to be male.
the two older siblings are definately boys one was fathered by the original dominant male and the other by the newer (but older) male . its the same with the Rhesus monkeys there mainly male
Three more Grivets have joined the existing group at MH from the AAP rescue centre in the Netherlands. Also making the trip from Holland to the Isle of Wight was a new species for the park, 2.0 Cherry Crowned Mangabey (also rescues from AAP)
