OK, so I know in the Cleveland Pachyderm Building the elephants/giraffes were at one end of the building, but at one point the building housed rhinos. Which exhibit were they in? I know the Nile Hippo exhibit was exclusive, but the rest seem like they could've been switched out. My classmate remembers seeing rhinos, but doesn't remember where.
I remember rhinos in the old pachyderm building. Rhinos were housed between the elephants and hippo. It was a small inside enclosure that later was used to house the Aldabra tortoises in the winter and then warthogs later on. Rhinos had access to an outside yard when weather permitted.
Thanks! I don't remember ever actually seeing the warthogs inside the building (Then again I was 8 when the old building was demolished), I'd usually run past that stall to see the hippos!
Here is photo of the Warthogs in their outside enclosure taken on May 21, 2006 https://www.flickr.com/x/t/0091009/photos/30706946@N00/288489102/ . You can see the bricks of the Pachyderm Building in the background. The Pachyderm Building also housed Tapirs.
This just came to me: Did at least one of the Tapirs move into the Pygmy Hippo exhibit after it passed away? I think I saw a Tapir there, but then again, I was like 8
If I remember correctly The Pygmy Hippo was on exhibit until the Pachyderm Building closed before partial demolition. At that time CMZ had Malayan Tapirs. I'm not sure but, I kind of remember a Baird's Tapir in the building at some point of time. And don't forget the Honey Bee hive near the west end of the building.
The Pygmy Hippo passed away in '05/'06 before the building could be demolished. I think I remember there being river hogs in place of the warthogs? Also wasn't the boardwalk behind the building closed off due to the exit being worked on to remove the Schrekengost sculpture?
