Nothing about AI can be defined as manufacture, and I imagine the zoo's visitor numbers over the next couple of years will be something rather special.
Don't try telling that to the people at Edinburgh You might learn more than you want to know about how a sgian dubh can be used. Alan
Does anyone know anything about which gorillas are intended to join Pairi Daiza? Last I heard it was Sango and Lomako (both males) from La Vallee des Singes, and Shomari and Dayo from Artis (also both male)? Any others or is that it?
Four is a fairly typical number to form a bachelor group with- unless they decide to add a fully grown silverback as 'schoolmaster' but I can't think of one that needs a home like that at present.
A pair of bear cuscus have gone on show. https://www.facebook.com/actuzoo/ph...716141840318/1089538247791431/?type=3&theater
The orangs have been released into their new enclosure https://www.facebook.com/JardinDesMondes/videos/1079288088804103/
Male Gorilla Wazungu from Schmiding has now been transferred here. At 14 he is presumably being added to the new male group as a more senior male. Are they still having two more from La Vallee de Singes, or just the three they have now?
I think they'll still get Sango and Lomako from LVdS, as between four and six is the most common size for a gorilla bachelor group, and it would be a better age range (birth years would be 2002, 2004 x2, 2007 and 2008)
The new Gorilla land volcano mountain thingy has been opened today Ouverture du premier Volcan des Gorilles à Pairi Daiza – Zoonaute.net
This looks like the usual rush with a new exhibit, the animals to fill it only arrived a few days ago- one of them(Wuzungu- or should he be called Dracula...?)) literally only the other day- and with little or no time to settle in before going on exhibit. It is obviously only just finished, the 'mountain' looks very bare and open- which the Gorillas will hate- and needs some time to tone down a bit and mature with more vegetation too. But on the plus side, it is a new holder for several male Gorillas.
Another exciting new species - yesterday (10th August) the park received a group of 0.0.4 Olive Ridley Sea Turtles from a collection in the Maldives. These are the only ones in Europe. The individuals were sent to Belgium after being deemed none releasable due to injuries. Two of them will eventually move onto AquaZoo Friesland whilst the remaining pair stay at Pairi Diaza
