A new male Eurasian moose (Alces alces alces), named Thor, 8 months old and from the Czech Republic (it didn't say which zoo) has arrived at Pairi Daiza. He will live with the female Oléa that arrived last year when The Last Frontier section was completed. They share an exhibit with wapitis.

Two BIG cervid species in the same enclosure? No problem at all or could there be a problem with the bulls? Any experiences from other zoos keeping this two species together?

Until now they only had females of either species.

Since a few days it is possible to book the accomondations of the new 'Land of Cold'-world.

Except of the ones for penguines - which will open in july - all accomondations are available from the re-opening of the park on March 21st onwards.

One can debate whether it is needed and good for the animal or other visitors to have an accomondation within a zoo close to the animals - however the pictures look amazing and I already look very much forward staying there for the first time in april.

Attached a few pictures from the Pairi Daiza facebook page:

A female tasmanian devil (Camira) came from Copenhagen to Pairi Daiza joining the two males (Cradle & Colin) living there…

Those hotel rooms look amazing! I would definitely stay there (obviously in the tiger room, though I think they are all nice).

Pairi Daiza informed yesterday via Facebook that they have done major changes to their elephant enclosure - increasing the outside area from 19.000m² to 33.000m² and adding in total 11 temple buildings into their enclosures (looking like the temples in Bagan at Myamar) with enrichment features for them.

Each of the temples contains small windows in which the elephants can activite mechanisms for e.g. starting a water shower or getting some food.

There are still various questions open however:
    • What will happen to the american buffalos whose current enclusore is mainly impacted by the expansion for the elephants
    • How will the visitors be able to see the Extended elephant enclosure - most of it is currently only visible from the train going through the park (like the 2 bull enclosures today)
    • Will there be other animals be added - either within the same enclosure or at the two smaller enclosures at the 'Temple of Ani' - on French forums people are speculating about gaurs and indian rhinos
