Paradise members email confirms reopening from 12th Feb to all visitors as per the note on the website but adding that members don't need to pre-book tickets. Other visitors still do (no gate sales).

Paradise also closing on 18th due to storm thingy

Park Closure : Friday 18th February!

As we follow and monitor the current weather announcements made by the Met Office, Paradise Wildlife Park will be temporarily closed on the 18th of February 2022.

This decision has not been made lightly but has been made to ensure the safety of all our visitors, staff and animals. Our expert keepers will still be on site caring for our animals and we expect to be open as usual on Saturday.

We thank you for your understanding at this time, we hope everyone stays safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Paradise sent member news around saying they will rebrand to a new name on 1st April 2024 on their 40th anniversary and will then be known as Hertfordshire Zoo. Rebranding to align to the community and education / conservation messages and away from sounding like more of a theme park.

The news item is dated 4th April on the website so a rather odd April Fools if that’s the case.

And it’s being reported on the back of the announcement in the local press

Paradise Wildlife Park to rebrand as Hertfordshire Zoo

Long overdue, though personally I’d have gone for Broxbourne Wildlife Park. Regardless, good for them. Peter and the family have been doing some good work lately on the site’s infrastructure.

I have never visited this zoo, but I’d heard they were going to have sun bears, does anyone know when they will have them?

In the near future I believe, though covid’s put the brakes on moving the project forward at pace. I don’t think attitudes have changed though, they’ve been fostering relationships and partnerships with the Free the Bears charity for some years now.

Today they have posted on Facebook about their black hornbill chick, which has now fledged. Only the one survived (not a surprise). I also don’t understand why they went with it being the only chick to HATCH (not born! Drives me crazy when that is used) for two years when Paignton hatched a chick last year (which is still alive). I think Paignton will be waiting to see if this chick ends up being female.

Not sure if it has been mentioned somewhere, Paradise widlife park sent an email highlighting the birth of a red panda cub (born on 16/7) to their female Tilly and a link to a video about it.

Not surprised, it's great news to see a red panda..adds to the one recently at Banham.

Especially considering it has been labelled as a miracle birth due to the recent passing of its father and the hot weather it was born in, and it is called Little Red until it is checked over.
