Given the number of private keepers holding the species in Europe - I believe there are private holdings in France, Belgium and the Netherlands at *least* - it is more likely that this arrival was sourced from one of these, considering the fact that of the existing public holders of King BoP only Walsrode is currently breeding the species.
Since 2010 Parc des Oiseaux has kept Blyth's hornbills and today ( April 20 ) the first chick has hatched .
I haven't seen the info so I'm putting it on. The bird park is expected to open a hotel this year. AIN. Tourisme : bientôt un hôtel au Parc des oiseaux de Villars-les-Dombes What about the big projects that the park had presented a few years ago: kiwis, bats ...
The real new thing for this year is the refurbishment of the old birds house at the entrance of the park. The house will be called "Missions 2070" focus on children learning about birds and conservation. We do not know if it will still house birds. The park has already a nothern brown kiwi received from Berlin Zoo in 2016. I don't know if he is on show. The next new exhibit will be a new conference center with two indoors enclosures on desert (american desert if I remember well) and antartic birds and a nocturnal area for small indigenous animals (not birds).
So they received a kiwi I was no longer sure. So the projects they had exposed a few years ago are still relevant.
Birth of two tawny frogmouths at the end of august and birth of two open-billed storks a week ago (first time for the park).
The Parc des Oiseaux will soon receive four Black-faced spoonbills (Platalea minor) from Tama Zoo (Tokyo, Japan). They will on display from the 2021 season. Parc des Oiseaux
Wooh ! I suppose this is the first step to a breeding program in Europe but I don't know where they will be on display in the park.
Awesome news. Also something I forgot to write here and was sad to learn during my last visit : all the toucans are now gone from the park as they're renovating their house. I would really like to know where they sent the Plate-billed ones...
It seems that the covid-19 crisis changes the plans for the near future. The park told that next year they will open a new exhibit for butterflies !

3 European black vultures arrived from Ouwehands - the Netherlands. Here the 3 birds which had hatched at Riga, Munster and Ostrava, had been socialized in a large aviary and now they have been send to Parc des Oiseaux to be paired with birds already at the birdpark in a special breeding-center ( "Programma Barnabé" ) were the species will be bred for re-introduction-programms.
Just visited Parc des Oiseaux, very nice place for every bird enthousiast. Beautiful big mixed species aviaries, some great species, natural setting, good bird show and everywhere nice information plates with some very good photography. This year they had 4 young argus. All 4 black-faced spoonbills are still there, cock-of-the-rock also there. 2 hummingbirds and 2 male capuchin birds left. The last ones are displaying all the time, a very nice thing to watch. Many other nice species there, like goliath heron, African openbill, southern cassowary, curl crested aracari, wattled crane and slender-billed corella.
