New arrivals 0.1 Asian Lion from Ostrava (September) 1.0 Sumatran Tiger from Honolulu (October) 0.0.1 Jaguar also appears to have been born during 2012 (facebook)
Further to my earlier post - there are two cubs, not one Both male and born 23rd October according to ActuZoo (so they should still be fairly small and cute for you!) There are pictures of them on LPDF's Facebook playing in the recent snow 1.0 Jaguarundi was also born on 3rd November Unfortunatly deaths in recent months have included Amur Tiger, Tammy and the breeding male Sand Cat (which leaves LPDF with 4.1.0)
The zoo recently sent an 2-year-old male Amur Leopard, Kasha, to the Brookfield Zoo. His genes are unrepresented in the U.S. and the Brookfield will try to breed him with another Amur Leopard that was recently aquired from the Saint Louis Zoo.
On May 11, 2013, they will have a special evening opening with lights in select spots and a professional storyteller. Nocturne le 11 mai 2013 INSCRIPTION - À la une | Le Parc Des Félins
Another tristis birth would be very nice, but as all the individuals of this ssp in Europe bar one of the Edinburgh cats are related, new blood is sorely needed. I think the nominate is doing a little better genepool-wise, but not much better.
Just got home a little while ago from my trip. Yes, two month old golden cat - very, very cute! Photos forthcoming... They have also expanded the golden cat area. Where you used to have to turn left because the single golden cat exhibit was a corner, you can now go straight to a dead end path with a side view of the existing exhibit and then two new exhibits. There also appears to be a fourth exhibit off show behind these. The exhibit at the end of the path has a small house with glass viewing and some very nice and extensive signage on both asian and african golden cats.
The park director of felines, Gregory Breton, will be the featured speaker at this year's Feline Conservation Federation convention. Convention will be held in Nashville (USA) in early June. (If any of you are inclined to attend, convention participants will also get a private meet and greet with Nashville Zoo's latest litter of clouded leopard cubs. Too bad I just burned up all my vacation time and money in Europe!). Here is a link to convention info: http://www.felineconservation.org/uploads/57ua_2013_convention_promo_for_web.pdf
The park will have two early morning openings this summer. Admission booth and entry building will open at 6am and park exhibits will open at 6:30am. Dates are July 20 and August 17. 20 July: Early Opening at the Parc des Félins - Agenda | Le Parc Des Félins
I did not see the european lynx (only the siberian), so maybe this explains why. May have been denned up. Also I noticed one of the two black leopards was in the holding cage. This explains why. I have been dying to photograph black leopard babies for a long time - looks like I need to fly back to Europe! (I wish, I wish...).
According to the forum, the father of the litter has a history of killing the cubs, so hopefully they will be kept separated.
