    Oh, the article has PETA going through all their motions. They say that the methods of obtaining the semen use shocks (which I presume is highly controlled), they use fraudulent data about lifespans and ailments, and generally being "WAH!!!1! ANIMALS EXPERIENCE PAIN AND I DON'T LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!"

    Oh good job me I forgot to write million. Hey though I'm not picky if the government of Quebec wants to give me $12 I'm happy to take it and then spend it here in Ontario. What can I say I'm good for a giggle.

    Cheetah, Akeelah, has given birth again and this time it's quadruplets, Imani, Ilanga, Bemba and Malik. She's been able to raise this litter after last summer rejecting Mosi and Jelanie.

    I'm in favour of Stella.

    They mention at the end they're opening a new exhibit for the giraffes, elephants, and rhinos. Any more information on it?

    On that note, do you think the zoo will be expanding their elephant collection with that exhibit? Carole is too old to breed anyway without risk.

    The Giraffe calf has been named Isobel.

    Also to touch on the expansion of their elephant program, I certainly hope so! If they were able to import a young cow or two from Europe (perhaps in a partnership with Granby), that would be an excellent addition to the zoo! Their bull is a very valuable unrepresented founder, so it would be absolutely delightful to get him a couple of young cows to breed with.

    One of the two facilities will be receiving a fairly young female from the states by the end of the year

    Question(s):
    1. When exactly does a bull go senile? Junot's 36, which is middle age for an elephant if I remember correctly, so Granby with Tutume whose 20 would be he best fit.
    2. How young is the female?
    3. What zoo is she coming from?

    Bull elephants never hit a period of reproductive senescence. As long as they are physically capable of mounting a cow, they can breed with no age limits (for example, 50+ year old Thai at Houston is still an active breeder).

    A male Nilgai calf was born. It had some health issues and appears to be being hand reared for now.

    Ottawa's royal swans will be gifted to Parc Safari in order to do what is best for the swans and the city budget.

    Also in other news the Safari will be getting its own TV show this fall, sadly it'll be on a French channel so good luck to us English speakers. Good for them though. Now could they convince Toronto to try for that again?

    Canal Vie proposera une série documentaire sur le Parc Safari
