    I'll try! :D

The main two things about Cabarceno is that it is a) nothing like any other zoo and b) enormous - the elephant enclosure alone covers more area than Madrid Zoo(!).

The animal collection doesn't have too many rarities or surprises (though there are some) but the enclosures are unbelievable. Any other display of European Brown Bears will be vaguely disappointing for the rest of my life! It's also quite a good place for bird-watching..!

It's not perfect (the porcupine enclosure - where did that come from? Awful!) but the majority of the exhibits are impressive and several are outstanding (elephants(/buffalo/lechwe), bears, tigers and baboons among the very best). And they do a very entertaining falconry display.

The photos that will follow when the gallery's ready will give something of an idea of the place, I hope!

Excuse my laziness for not researching myself, but are there any other decent zoos withing an hour of here, or Bilbao?

There's Zoo de Santillana (Santillana del Mar) which has quite a good bird collection, and a few unusual species such as European Mink, but some of the mammal accommodation isn't up to modern standards.

    Thanks Mike.
I'm considering a trip to Bilbao for a music festival in July and just wondering which way to go about it. I initially thought of basing myself there and driving out for day trips before and after the 3 day gig, but am now wondering about travelling by train around Spain, or maybe up through France; I really fancy a trip to ZooParc de Beauval too!

I desperately wish I could have engineered a visit to this place when I was in Spain. Without knowing of Cabercino I would have assumed this to be a wild herd.

Baby-Boom at Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno:

Since March 14th, the following animals have been born:

2 dromedary camels, 1 Watusi, 3 eland, 1 llama, 1 horse, 4 mouflons and 16 brown bears!! An incredible achievement for this zoo.
