I understand your point, and I am not trying to dispute it, but I am just pointing out how many sources, including the two main zoological institutions breeding them (Perth and Adelaide), call them tortoises rather than turtles. Regardless, it is great news for the species (whether they are called a tortoise or are a turtle ).
Sorry if I gave the wrong impression - I know you weren't trying to dispute the point. It just irks me that so many people who should know better - like the zoos in question - continue to perpetuate the misnomer. And I agree - it's excellent news for the species! Hix

Sumatran orangutan Teliti escaped her exhibit today and has since been returned to her night quarters. From Facebook:
An article on the escape with a few more details which talks of how people attempted to pat the orang-utan. https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/wa/a/29053214/orangutan-busts-out-at-perth-zoo/
Absolute idiots they are patting it, people have no brains at times, at least Perth Zoo reacted well to the incident and their social media team should be commended. I am guessing some exhibit modifications in the near future.
The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me. It's very lucky that no one was hurt, considering the risks involved in 'trying to pat' an animal as strong and potentially dangerous as an orangutan (even a young one). Well done to Perth Zoo for their handling of the situation.
