When will the elephant habitat expansion be completed?

They say this summer, but it’s not often things are completed on-time there.

I’m excited for a new lion/hyena exhibit. I don’t like the current exhibit space for those two animals and hopefully with new lion exhibit space they can bring in a breeding pair of Lions. I just wish Kitambi’s genes hadn’t gone to waste.

Have there been any upgrades on the mountain lion enclosure? I haven't been for a few years but from what I remember it was at least a quarter of the size of most other enclosures for the species at other zoos.

It is still disgustingly small. The only "upgrades" are the addition of a swing near the front. While this may provide some small enrichment for the animals (which I doubt since they ignored it when I was there), it ruins the view for the visitor since it is set in the front middle.

Just because they weren’t using it when you were there, doesn’t mean they never use it or it doesn’t serve it’s purpose other times.

Visiting on Thursday, March 28. It wasn't that warm out, yet many animals were not out or in view. They were painting the lion enclosure, so no lions out. Only one elephant out each time I went by. It was my first visit, and I was kind of disappointed to be honest.

I was disappointed with my last visit too (it's been over a year, maybe two years) because the zoo seems to have gone downhill. Some of the previously lush exhibits are now barren with most of the foliage gone and it completely changes the feel. Specifically I am thinking of giant anteater, spectacled bear, mexican wolf.

Reba and Indu don't get along so they can't be in the yard at the same time because both are dominant females. so if you saw a solo elephant it would have been Reba since Shena is put out with Indu. She gets along with both. I have only seen all 3 out at the same time twice and that was a long time ago. That is a big benefit to the new exhibit: all 3 can be outside at the same time, in separate yards.

The zoo swapped male jaguars with the Jacksonville Zoo.

I have confirmed with the zoo that the wolf pups and parents are on exhibit. Of course the exhibit has lots of hiding places, so there is no guarantee you will see them if you go. According to the zoo Facebook post there are six pups born in early May. They are still being parent raised and staff have not yet interfered but are waiting to performing their first exam.
